Mohan Meakin was founded in 1864 by John Dyer, a British businessman who had established the Dyer Breweries in the 1850s.
The brewery was originally located in Gwalior, but it was moved to its current location in Baroda in 1881. It has since become one of the largest and most successful breweries in India.
Mohan Meakin produces a variety of beer, spirits, and soft drinks.
Its main brands include Old Monk Rum, Golden Eagle Beer, Diplomat Deluxe, Colonels Special, Black Knight, Asias original beer, Lion, is still sold in northern India.
Lion Beer is the main brand first sold by Dyer Breweries in the 1840s. Lion was originally an India Pale Ale (IPA).
Mohan Meakin brand, Golden Eagle, took the number one place until the 1980s, when Kingfisher became number one
